Police investigate stabbing of TV star by spouse
A disturbing case of domestic violence has come to light involving Kannada television actress and anchor Manjula Shruthi.
According to media reports, Shruthi was allegedly stabbed by her husband, Amareesh, at their rented residence in Muneshwara Layout, Bengaluru, on July 5.
The attack occurred within the jurisdiction of the Hanumanthnagar Police Station but only surfaced days later, leaving fans and the television industry in shock, News9 reported.
Shruthi, known for her roles in serials like Amruthadhaare, was reportedly attacked on July 4.
Sources say the couple’s relationship had been strained for months due to frequent arguments over financial issues and Shruthi’s personal choices.
The pair married 20 years ago and have two children. However, tensions escalated as Amareesh disapproved of Shruthi’s behaviour. Three months ago, Shruthi separated and moved in with her brother, even filing a police complaint over lease disputes at Hanumanthnagar police station.
News9 reports that although Shruthi had moved out in April and filed a complaint, the couple reconciled last Thursday after a compromise.
Tragically, the day after their children left for college, Amareesh allegedly attacked Shruthi with pepper spray before stabbing her multiple times in the neck, ribs, and thigh. He reportedly dragged her by the hair and repeatedly slammed her head against a wall, leaving her severely injured.
Shruthi is currently receiving treatment at Victoria Hospital. Hanumanthnagar police have registered two cases related to the domestic dispute, including attempted murder. The accused, Amareesh, has been arrested and taken into custody. The police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full details of the assault.
