The actor was expected to appear for further questioning on Monday.
Dubai: Kochi City Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the call records and financial transactions of Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko in connection with a recent drug case, according to media reports.
The actor was expected to appear for further questioning on Monday. However, police have now postponed the session, stating that a detailed examination of his records and drug test results is necessary before proceeding.
Chacko and makeup artist Ahammed Murshad were booked on Saturday under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including consumption, abetment, and destruction of evidence.
The actor was arrested and later released on bail after allegedly fleeing from a Kochi hotel room during a police raid on April 16.
Shine was acquitted in a 2015 narcotics case due to procedural lapses. Meanwhile, police are also investigating a suspected drug supplier from Malappuram believed to have links to individuals in the film industry.
Adding to the controversy, actress Vincy Aloshious has accused Chacko of inappropriate behaviour and drug use on set. In an Instagram video, she detailed her discomfort during the filming of Suthravakyam, alleging that the actor was under the influence while shooting and made unprofessional remarks and offers in front of the crew.
She has since filed formal complaints with both the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the internal complaints committee of the film industry.
Vincy also claimed the production team was aware but continued filming due to the actor’s role.
Just days after Vincy’s revelations, Chacko was caught on CCTV fleeing a hotel during a narcotics raid. A video that surfaced on Thursday shows the actor reportedly escaping through a window of his third-floor room, landing on a canopy that tore, and jumping into a swimming pool before fleeing via the staircase.
The anti-drug operation was carried out by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) under the Kochi City Police, who arrived at the hotel near Kaloor on Wednesday night in search of a drug suspect. Although the original suspect was not found, the officers discovered Chacko’s name in the register and went to his room, prompting his dramatic escape.
Police confirmed the escape through CCTV footage. Though no drugs were recovered, Chacko’s actions have raised further suspicion. Officials say they intend to question him about why he fled the scene.
The Kerala Film Chamber is reviewing the misconduct complaint filed by Vincy Aloshious. Police say their investigation into Chacko’s possible involvement in drug use and related offenses is ongoing.
