Had it not been for Shah Rukh Khan’s 15-year-old daughter Suhana, this Bollywood superstar may never have made Twitter history.

His selfie with former One Direction band member Zayn Malik was the most retweeted picture in India as it crossed the 120,000 retweets mark and was favorited 170,000 times — since Khan posted it on April 17 last year with the message, “This kid is so cool. May Allah bless him. Dinner time at the Asian Awards.”

“For me it was the biggest night of my life... I almost missed it. But when Suhana asked me where I was going and I told her I had to go London and that Zayn would be there. She was like: ‘you have to go’,” said Khan in an interview with tabloid! in Dubai on Saturday evening. It was the first selfie that he initiated.

“I was very busy because I was shooting for Fan... I told the wonderful person behind the awards that I may not come. I thought to myself that I will have to take a private plane, fly in and fly out. Would I make it? But I still made it. So I went out for a walk and I did something I have never done before. I told him [Zayn]: ‘let’s just take a photo’ and I sent it to my daughter,” said Khan.

With that iconic selfie that sent social media in a tizzy, his teenager daughter too had newfound respect for her 50-year-old father.

“The other day, Diplo [American DJ] met me in Goa. I took a picture with him. But I made a fool of myself after that. I kept posing on Snapchat and he told my team to please tell me to learn how to Snapchat, otherwise his daughter won’t be happy,” said Khan.

Other than Malik, did he have any other fanboy moment?

“I had to grow up too fast. Before I could become a fan, I became a star,” said Khan,

His thriller Fan, directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Yash Raj Films, will release in the UAE on April 14. Khan will be seen in a double role. He plays a superstar and a 24-year-old stalker who becomes dangerously obsessed with a big actor.
