Here's a classic case for why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover! How else would breezy, typical rom-com-styled trailers pan out into a fun film. The charm of I Hate Luv Storys lies in its ability to poke fun at its producer Karan Johar's earlier movies, along with a handful of other equally syrupy Bollywood-ised romances.

While crispy, funny lines leave us chuckling, it's evident the joke is actually on us, for lapping up such inane concepts in the name of romance. In fact, Johar pokes fun at numerous romantic cliches and recycles the same ones to pad up this flick. Debutante Malhotra's contribution looks limited, with Johar's overbearing candy floss taking over. From designer costumes to plush international locations, it's got the KJo stamp. Unfortunately, it doesn't match up to other tales from his kitty (like Wake Up Sid), only because of its inability to steer away from the obvious. But nevertheless, it's a breath of fresh air!

It's Sonam Kapoor who walks away with the honours, only because she's a natural. Despite the mush, she's got it under control. Imran Khan, however, isn't half as charming as in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. But it's his bodylicious act that deserves special applause. Among the supporting cast, I'll pick the egg-throwing Kavin Dave as the winner, with a smug Dattani and absurd Soni joint second winners.

Vishal-Shekar string together neat tunes that make this love story not-so nonsensical.
