Dubai: Tamil superstar Suriya is back—and this time, he’s going Retro.

In Karthik Subbaraj’s much-anticipated romantic action drama, the Tamil superstar trades sleek suits for throwback swagger, serving charisma, combat, and chemistry in equal measure.

Hitting UAE cinemas on May 1, Retro: Love. Laughter. War. isn’t just a movie—it’s a full-throttle showcase of Suriya’s undeniable screen magnetism. Advance bookings have already opened in UAE cinemas, India, and other major territories like the UK, signaling his box-office clout.

Whether he’s flashing that slow-burn smile or landing a punch with poetic precision, Suriya proves yet again why he’s one of Indian cinema’s most bankable and beloved stars.

In Retro, he plays Paarivel “Paari” Kannan, a man caught in the crossfire of romance and rebellion.

And trust us, he's never looked better. Sporting two distinct looks—a mullet-and-moustache combo for the vintage vibes and a sharp, clean-cut avatar for present-day grit—Suriya effortlessly straddles style and substance.

This marks the first-ever collaboration between Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj, the man behind cult hits like Jigarthanda and Mahaan. And when these two visionaries collide? Expect fireworks.

Subbaraj calls Retro his "dream love story laced with explosive action”—and Suriya, as always, delivers with intensity and soul.

Pooja Hegde joins Suriya as the spirited Rukmini, bringing a fresh romantic dynamic we haven't seen before. But make no mistake: this is Suriya’s show through and through. His body language, his expressive eyes, his voice—especially now that he’s dubbed in all three languages—create a character that’s both raw and refined.

From cellular jail stunts in the Andamans to moody romance in the hills of Ooty, Retro is a globe-trotting visual feast.

Already setting pre-booking records in Tamil Nadu and the UK, Retro is poised to be the definitive Suriya blockbuster of 2025. With over 10 million teaser views in 24 hours, fans are hungry—and for good reason. When Suriya goes full throttle, the box office might sit up and take notice.
