Stars light up Dubai press meet while promoting new rom-com Love Guru
Dubai: Ten years after their last on-screen romance Bin Roye, Pakistani cinema darlings Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed are back, and they're goofier—and more charming—than ever.
The two stars lit up a press conference in Dubai this afternoon while promoting their upcoming romantic comedy Love Guru, a glossy tale about love and brokering unions.
But it wasn’t just the chemistry from their film that drew laughs and admiration—it was their effortless banter and candid take on modern love.
“We’re eternal romantics,” said Mahira, visibly amused as she attempted to patch a broken nail with her some questionably solid glue at the start of the event.
“I know I play a put-together architect in the film, but I’m a bit of a mess in real life,” she joked, revealing her unfiltered, off-screen persona.
Saeed chimed in with a sentiment that had fans swooning: “Soulmates aren’t an outdated concept. If you feel like you cannot live without the other, then that is love.”
Love Guru, set for release on June 6, reimagines the old-school romance in the age of Tinder and Bumble.
“Times have changed, yes,” said Mahira, when asked whether modern love stories have outgrown concepts like arranged marriages or soulmates. “But love is still love. Every generation just expresses it differently.”
The stars agreed that love can strike more than once—though never quite the same. “You can fall in love again,” Mahira noted. “But every love has its own story. No one love is the same.”
The press conference took a lighthearted turn when the actors riffed on possible sequels. “Maybe in the next film, they’ll meet on Minder [Tinder where families approve potential matches],” quipped Humayun.
“And families approve the match. That’s a film right there!” Mahira added, laughing. “Let it be known that Gulf News initiated the plot for our next movie.”
While their off-screen camaraderie is magnetic, Love Guru promises a high-gloss cinematic experience, complete with soaring visuals and music that’s already winning hearts. They even shot a song in the UAE.
The pair also touched on the evolution of Pakistani cinema, praising the quality and ambition of recent films like Joyland and The Legend of Maula Jatt.
“Production-wise, we are just getting better and better,” Mahira said. “It’s time the subcontinent—and the world—takes note.”
In a world where algorithms and swipes have replaced chance encounters, Love Guru dares to dream differently. And with Mahira and Humayun steering the ship, expect both heart and hilarity.
