The romantic comedy is an Eid Al Adha release and is directed by Nadeem Baig
Mahira Khan’s next big-screen venture is a romcom, titled Love Guru, where she reunites with her Bin Roye costar Humayun Saeed after almost a decade.
The movie, which is slated for an Eid Al Adha release, is directed by Nadeem Baig who boasts an enviable track record of four consecutive superhits.
The film’s promotions kicked off recently with Khan and Saeed making a ‘surprise’ public appearance at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, where a PSL cricket match was being played.
The crowds erupted with joy seeing the stars amidst them. Next, they were treated to the movie’s trailer on a projection screen inside the stadium. The match was disrupted anyway, by a rainstorm. Much to the crowd’s jubilance, the stars didn’t leave the stadium.
Khan was spotted rushing for cover, but she was all smiles, constantly waving to the crowds, and even had food in the enclosure.
Judging from the trailer, which is a little over three minutes long, Love Guru is an upbeat romantic comedy set in modern-day London. It features Saeed, also the film’s producer, in the title role of an incorrigible flirt pretending to be a relationship expert.
This character is clearly one glorious chance for Saeed to show his range as a performer. As he romances four different ladies on screen, apparently as four different persons, Saeed has ample room to flex his comic muscles, exhibit his crazy side, do some kickass action, and also experiment with his looks. Add to it the weepie stuff, and some Bollywood-style song-and-dance, and you get a complete ‘filmi’ hero package.
Enter Khan, the pretty woman walking down London’s fashion street, flaunting a black midi with high boots, designer shades, and a killer pout. Khan’s Sophiya is an architect, and an idealist — a perfect foil to Saeed’s philanderer. But, as with most things in life, love happens to these seemingly incompatible people. It was never part of the plan.
The trailer catches your eye by virtue of its gorgeous leads and also for its lush cinematography. Each frame is a dream.
On her Instagram account, Khan teased about “the other hero” in the movie, and left the readers wondering. With a supporting cast that reads like the who’s who of TV stars such as Sohai Ali Abro, Mira Sethi, Momina Iqbal, Vardah Aziz, and Ramsha Khan, it would be interesting to see who Mahira was hinting at. Our guess is: Vasay Chaudhry, who is also the film’s scriptwriter.
