Pakistani film and television stars dressed in their finest designer wear as they attended the 6th Kashmir-Hum Awards, held at the enormous First Ontario Centre in Hamilton, Canada. Hum TV Network’s flagship event was previously held internationally in Dubai in 2015.
The Hamilton event saw a huge turnout of non-resident Pakistanis and Indians, and the stars gladly stopped to wave back at their fans and oblige them with selfies.
Mahira Khan, who looked resplendent in a shimmery blue anarkali, had the crowd swooning as she danced to a medley of songs from her many hit films. Atif Aslam easily had the most electrifying effect on the audience, as he performed a variety of tracks, ending with Dil Diyaan Gallan from last year’s Bollywood blockbuster Tiger Zinda Hai.
Humayun Saeed also took to the stage, along with his Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 costar Kubra Khan, while the winner of New Sensation (TV) and Best Actor (Popular) Ahad Raza Mir shocked everyone with his daredevil stunt before dancing with his Parwaaz Hai Junoon leading lady Hania Amir. Model and actor Mikaal Zulfikar and Hareem Farooq also performed together.
Earlier, the show began with the Pakistan’s national anthem, which was followed by Canada’s national anthem. Like any other film or TV awards event, this one too was eventually about honouring the best in the business.
Mahira Khan was adjudged the Best Actress (Film) for her author-backed role in Verna, where she played a rape survivor. Fawad Khan presented the award to her.
The trophy for Best Actor (Film) went to Humayun Saeed for Punjab Nahi Jaungi, while Sajal Aly walked away with the maximum number of awards — Best Actress (Popular) for drama serial Yaqeen Ka Safar, and Best Actress (Jury) for O Rangreza. She and Ahad Raza were declared the Best Onscreen Couple for Yaqeen Ka Safar.
Sana Fakhir and Imran Ashraf won awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories respectively. Sania Saeed walked away with the Most Impactful Character (Female) award for Sammi, while veteran actor Qavi Khan won the Most Impactful Character (Male) for Alif Allah Aur Insan.
Ace cricketer Shahid Afridi won the International Icon of the Year, while former actress star Reema Khan got the Excellence in Cinema Award. Renowned beautician and social activist Masarrat Misbah was given the Excellence in Humanity Award.
The other stars who graced the night included Adnan Siddiqi, Mawra Hocane, Armeena Rana Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Vaneeza Ahmad, Shahzad Sheikh, Bilal Khan, Arsalan Butt, Sanam Jung, Samina Peerzada, and Bushra Ansari. The event was hosted by Ali Rehman Khan, Yasir Hussain, and Ahmad Ali Butt.
