Former YouTube artist turned mainstream musician Abdullah Qureshi recently released a single, interestingly titled Kali Santro (Black Santro). The song is said to be a trip down memory lane: Qureshi owned a black Santro, and he seems to have some fond memories associated with it. Kali Santro, then, is a valentine to his much-loved car. It’s an experimental song, in Punjabi language, with influences drawn from diverse sources such as American country singer Johnny Cash, as well as Pakistan’s own Noor Jehan.

Joining Islamabad-based Qureshi on the vocals is Nimra Mehra who is said to have recreated “the sound of the fifties”.

Kali Santro is composed by Qureshi and produced by Hassan Omer. The video, which is directed by theatre and film actor Usman Mukhtar (last seen in Parchi), features Qureshi as a Punjabi-speaking cab driver, while model Mahila Chaudhary plays the late Melody Queen Noor Jehan.
