Sharleen Spiteri on filming in Mumbai

The video for Midnight, the new single from Texas’s ninth studio album, Jump On Board, was shot in Indian cities Mumbai and Udaipur.

It showed the band’s lead singer Sharleen Spiteri taking in the hectic day-to-day city life against stunning backdrops.

During an exclusive interview with Gulf News tabloid! she revealed her fascination for the country and her closeness to its people.

“I‘ve been obsessed with India since I was a little girl. That was my first visit to India and it was an incredible experience,” she said.

“We have an amazing amount of Indians living in Glasgow, and my best friend was a little Indian girl I grew up with and went to school with. I used to go to her parent’s house after school and her mum would give me all this amazing food with so many different colours and tastes. It was so different to the kind of stuff I was used to growing up eating,” Spiteri added.

“My best girlfriend is a girl called Ragi who lives in London. When I went to India I went to Udaipur first and then to Mumbai and I visited her mum who I know very well. She spends half the year in India and other half in Nottingham. When her mum comes to London it can be magical because if there was a mango sitting on the table her mum would say ‘I’ll make you a sandwich’ and I don’t know that she does but it tastes like gorgeous. It’s the best thing ever,” she said.

“As a little girl here were two places I always wanted to go to — India and Hawaii — and I’ve [not] been to Hawaii yet,” she added.

“India was more than I imagined it to be. The feeling of peacefulness there was a proudness to it, there was never any anger. You know some places you go to and you can feel the poverty, but I didn’t feel that in India. I would look at some people although they had a tiny little place they were so proud about their home and were always cleaning and sweeping it out with sticks,” Spiteri said. “There was that smile on their faces and you could feel this connection as human beings. It’s almost like it makes you see the bigger picture of things that are not important in life. The human connection is the most important thing in life for me and I really felt that in India.”

Don’t miss it!
