The soul singer has released a sample of his Bond theme tune ‘Writing’s On The Wall’

If the 15-second sample of Writing’s On The Wall is any indication of the rest of the track, Bond purists will be pleased to discover that Sam Smith’s official Spectre single stays true to classic, cinematic themes from the ‘60s.
The soul singer has shared a short clip of his song for the latest James Bond film, featuring a soaring string section. According to Smith’s accompanying message, it looks as if it gets its first official airing on September 25.
The track, co-written with Smith’s long-time collaborator Jimmy Napes, was the quickest the Grammy winner had ever written a song, penning the track in just 20 minutes back in January.
In other news, Smith recently spoke about his “musical accident” involving Tom Petty’s 1989 hit I Won’t Back Down. The singer, who now shares royalties for the song Stay With Me with Petty after similarities between the songs were highlighted back in January, said he refuses to listen to the Petty original.
“I am 23 years old — Tom Petty’s song came out way before I was born and still to this day — people don’t know this — I actually haven’t listened to the song,” he told GQ. “I refuse to listen to it. Even now I won’t listen to it.”
He added: “There are only so many notes on a piano... We were just unfortunate that it happened, but there was no bad intention.”
