The brothers who debuted and released music online in 2020, visit Dubai for the first time
Dubai: Several Korean artists have visited the UAE and performed for their fans here. From Pop to rap, hip-hop and more. But it was at the launch of Korea 360 in Dubai, where fans got to witness Korean indie rock duo, Red C.
The duo, Kim Kyeong-chan and Kim Eun-chan, who are also siblings, had fans singing along and jumping to their music at Grand Hyatt Dubai, on April 11.
In an exclusive interview with Gulf News, the siblings who have been making music for years, shared their inspiration for their music, why they chose rock as a genre and more.
“We started making music at a young age. I picked up the guitar first, and my brother began playing the drums,” said Kyeong-chan.
“As we grew older, we thought, ‘Let’s create our own music and perform as a band’, and that’s how Red C was born,” he added.
Why did you chose this genre and the name, Red C?
The name Red C refers to the Red Sea in Korean – 홍해 (Honghae) – and it carries the image of parting the sea. It’s a well-known biblical miracle, and we thought if we keep working hard at what we do, maybe we could create our own kind of miracle.
Who or what inspired you to become a rock artist?
Our parents were classical musicians. But they also loved rock and pop music, so we grew up listening to those genres – in the car and at home. That’s how we ended up falling in love with rock, rather than classical music. We’ve loved rock ever since and continue to perform in this genre.
How long have you been making music for?
I started playing the guitar at the age of 10, and my brother was just 6. Back then, I was even called a guitar prodigy. Eventually, our entire family formed a band and appeared on TV shows together. As we grew up and searched for our own musical direction, we officially formed Red C in 2020 and released out first album.
Is your song writing process a success or a lot of trial and error?
We don’t really get sudden bursts of inspiration. Usually, we come up with ideas during jam sessions, or while practicing separately. If one of us finds a good melody, we bring it to the other and work on it together – combining ideas until they click.
How you describe your music?
Red C’s music is full of energy – and very sexy (laughs).
The brothers went on to perform some of their older songs and their most recent single, Rumor.
