CIX in Dubai: Exclusive performance and dreams of their own solo show in the UAE
The K-pop boy group spoke to Gulf News before their first-ever performance in Dubai
Dubai: Fans of k-pop boy group CIX, were in for a treat, when the group performed at the inauguration of Korea 360 in Dubai, at the Grand Hyatt Dubai on April 11.
The quartet includes members BX, Seunghun, Yonghee, and Hyunsuk, who brought their energy and showcased their powerful vocals and intricate choreographies when they performed hits like What You Wanted, Thunder and more, for their fans, who are called FIX.
In an exclusive interview with Gulf News, the group spoke of their song-writing process, how they prepare for their challenging and demanding stages, and even revealed what kind of characters they would play if they had to star in a k-drama.
How do you stay prepared, whether physically or mentally, for your demanding stages?
Seunghun: Rather than preparing specifically for a performance, I try to stay in shape regularly. We also practice a lot so we can put on great stages.
Who’s the most surprising member when it comes to hidden talents or unexpected quirks?
Seunghun: Our individual strengths? I think I’m someone who likes taking care of others. Like when we go out to eat, I’ll look up good spots in advance. I enjoy doing that kind of stuff.
Hyunsuk: I’m good at finding great place to eat, wherever we go.
Yonghee: I’m good at matching others’ hobbies and always being fun to hang out with.
BX: I think I’m good at rapping!
Is there still something about each member that surprises you, five years after debuting?
Yonghee: Rather than learning something new about each other, I think we’re just getting closer, taking better care of each other, and having fun together like a real family.
If you could relive just one memorable moment, which would it be and why?
Yonghee: Back when we debuted, we used to stay up all night playing games and working out. I’d love to go back to those times—it was so much fun and we were so energetic. I think those are memories we could only make at that age.
Do you ever get nervous before a performance? How do you shake it off and turn it into energy for your stage?
Hyunsuk: Honestly, I can’t completely let go of nerves, but keeping a bit of that tension helps when I perform. So I do a lot of mental image training before going on stage.
If you were in a k-drama, what kind of roles would each of you play?
BX: I’d pick… something comic!
Yonghee: I’d go with a student role.
Hyunsuk: Thriller for me!
Seunghun: I’d love to play a father figure.
Who’s most likely to forget their lyrics during a live performance?
Seunghun: Yonghee!
Hyunsuk: (laughs) me too, Yonghee!
Yonghee: I’ll go with… myself? Yeah, Yonghee.
BX: Yonghee!
If you could listen to only one song on repeat for a week, which song would it be?
Seunghun: CIX, Color!
Hyunsuk: Butterfly by BTS.
Yonghee: Beenzino’s Always Awake.
BX: I’ll go with our own, CIX’s Thunder.
