The Gaon music chart, which is intended to be equivalent to Japan’s Oricon and US’s Billboard chart, revealed the top physical albums and digital songs during the second quarter of 2018 in South Korea.
Between April and June, BTS’s record-breaking album, Love Yourself: Tear, came first on the Top Albums chart and sold 1,750,117 copies. Wanna One’s 1÷X=1 (UNDIVIDED) came in second with 639,955 physical copies sold, followed by EXO-CBX’s second mini-album, Blooming Days, with a total of 360,362.
Twice and BlackPink are the only two K-Pop girl groups to make it in the album chart, during the two-month period.
Although there have been chart manipulation accusations over solo singer Nilo’s track Pass for charting high and beating top idol groups, his song — as shown on the Gaon chart report — still managed to stay No 1 on the digital chart. The second and third most popular songs are Loco & Hwasa’s Don’t Give It To Me and MeloMance’s You. Other Korean acts included in the top 10 are Twice, iKON, Mamamoo, Winner, BIGBANG, Bolbbalgan4 and Momoland.
K-Pop groups Winner and Twice made it on both charts.
