Rumours regarding his personal life, lead to him taking a break from the group
Dubai: Ju Haknyeon member of the K-pop group, The Boyz will be leaving the group, the agency announced, in a statement on June 18.
The k-pop artist, who had rumours alleging he took part in prostitution, denied the rumours in a handwritten apology. While the agency's statement said the reason for his departure was, "issues involving his personal life (that made it) no longer possible for us to maintain trust in him as an artist," Haknyeon elaborated on the issue.
The letter said, "Hello. This is Ju Haknyeon.
First, I apologise to the fans who must have been greatly shocked by the news about me, as well as everyone whom I gave cause for concern through this unsavory matter.
In the wee hours of the morning of May 30, 2025, I attended a private gathering with alcohol together with an acquaintance, and while it is true that I was at that gathering, it is completely false that I engaged in any illegal activity, such as the prostitution that is being mentioned in news reports and rumors. I am deeply reflecting on my actions, and I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone who was shocked by this [matter]."
Before the statement was published by the agency, news outlet News1, reported that a letter of inquiry was obtained from the Japanese media outlet Shukan Bunshun to Haknyeon's agency. The letter of inquiry was regarding Haknyeon's private meeting with former Japanese AV actress Asuka Kirara in May.
Soon after the agency ONE HUNDRED, posted an official statement announcing his departure from the group, and termination of his exclusive contract. The statement read:
“As soon as we were informed of issues involving Ju Haknyeon’s private life, our company immediately suspended his activities and took time to thoroughly verify the facts.
As a result, we have come to recognize the seriousness of this issue and have clearly determined that it is no longer possible for us to maintain the trust in him as an artist. After sufficient discussions with the members of THE BOYZ, we have made the final decision for Ju Haknyeon to depart the team and to terminate his exclusive contract.
We ask for your deep understanding as this decision was an unavoidable measure to protect the members and the team. We would like to inform you that, as of today, Ju Haknyeon will cease all activities as a member of THE BOYZ.”
The agency then went on to assure fans that the other members will receive support from them as they continue their activities, “in a stable and healthy environment.”
On June 16, the agency had announced that Ju Haknyeon was on a temporary break from group activities.
