Chandramouli Biswas, the former bassist of the iconic rock band Fossils, was found dead at his rented home on Indian Mirror Street, Kolkata, on Sunday. He was 48.

Police suspect suicide and have launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death.

According to media reports, Biswas was alone at home when his body was discovered by his friend, Mehul Chakraborty.

"I hadn't been able to reach Chandramouli on the phone since morning. The phone kept ringing, and I grew worried. I went to his house with another friend, and that's when I saw him hanging from the ceiling fan," Chakraborty was quoted saying.

News of Biswas's death reached the band Fossils en route to a performance, visibly shaking lead vocalist Rupam Islam and the other members. Despite the shock, they chose to proceed with the show.

Addressing the crowd, Rupam said, “We have performed on this stage 21 times. Out of these, the picture of the person who was with us for 16 of those years is on the screen behind us. When we were on our way here, we received news in the car that hit us like a thunderbolt.”

He continued, “In such a situation, no one feels like singing or playing an instrument. But the Bengali rock crowd is in front of us. Chandramouli was our companion for a long time. I have no hesitation in saying today that he was my best friend. We were in touch until last year.”

The tragic loss of Chandramouli Biswas has sent shockwaves through the music fraternity, with fans and fellow musicians mourning his demise.
