Largest wildfire in South Korea broke out over the weekend, with 26 reported to have died
Dubai: Wildfires in South Korea, which are now termed as “the largest on record” has covered major parts of the country including Ulsan, North Gyeongsang, and South Gyeingsang provinces.
BTS’ Suga reportedly donated money toward wildfire relief efforts, along with his bandmate J-Hope. The rapper and producer, who has kept a low profile for the past seven months, was back in the spotlight for his generous donation.
On March 27, the K-pop idol and producer reportedly donated 100 million KRW approximately $68,200 (Dh250,500) to the Korean Red Cross. Fellow bandmate, J-Hope on the other hand reportedly also contributed the same amount to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association.
According to a statement by their agency, BIGHIT Music, the two artists expressed their hopes that the fires would be brought under control soon. And that the people who lost their homes, as well as the emergency responders who are working tirelessly, would be able to return to their normal lives soon.
Besides Suga and J-Hope, several other South Korean artists made donations to help victims affected by the wildfires and to support the wildfire relief efforts.
K-pop group Seventeen also made a huge donation to support those who were affected by the wildfires, according to South Korean news outlet Soompi.
The artists donated 1 billion KRW approximately $682,000 (Dh2,505,000) to aid residents affected by the wildfires. In a statement shared by the agency, the group said they hope their donation can provide even the smallest help to those affected by the wildfires.
Besides the k-pop idols, several actors and celebrities in the industry made donations ranging from Dh25,000 to Dh1,253,230, towards support for the victims, firefighters, disaster relief and more.
The list includes Kim Ji-won (Queen of Tears), Byeon Woo-seok (Lovely Runner), Lee Dong-wook (Goblin), Lee Jong-suk (Big Mouth), IU, Kim Woo-bin (Black Knight) and Shin Min-ah (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha), and more.
The list also includes other k-pop idols like Le Sserafim, Twice, NCT members Mark and Haechan, Red Velvet’s Wendy and Seulgi, Taeyeon and more.
