Celebrated designer went contemporary as he rolled out power jackets and capes with pearls
Dubai: Celebrated Indian designer Manish Malhotra stepped away from his signature bridal couture to present a contemporary and modern collection that felt globally inspired at the Dubai Fashion Week grand finale on February 6.
This time, instead of heavily embroidered lehengas, he embraced structured necklines, capes with pearl detailing, and sequined power jackets with dramatic shoulders.
The real showstopper, though, was Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima. She commanded the runway in a shimmering grey column gown with pearl detailing, a nod to the UAE’s pearl-diving legacy.
As she took a bow with Malhotra, she surprised the audience with a warm Namaste to the designer, adding a special moment to the show.
Malhotra also wove Middle Eastern influences into the collection, with capes and abayas blending seamlessly with his signature glamour.
And what's a Manish Malhotra show without a generous dose of Bollywood star spotting. The front row was packed with Bollywood titans such as producer-director mogul Karan Johar, model and dancer Malaika Arora, actor Sanjay Dutt, his wife Maanayata Dutt, and actress Urmila Matondkar.
By moving beyond bridal fashion, Malhotra proved once again that he can evolve while staying true to his signature style.
