Little big star gets bigger
Charice Pempengco did not expect that her big break would come so soon. The third-place winner of Little Big Star singing contest was disappointed when she didn't win the title in 2005. But because of the continuous exposure she got through video clips on YouTube, the singer became an instant hit. Hers was the fifth most viewed video of the year on the website. She was also recently invited to perform on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and received a standing ovation from the audience.
Not about the money
Angelika Dela Cruz has insisted that when she accepted her new role on the TV soap opera Babangon Ako Dudurugin Kita, she didn't do so for the money. The actress was quick to dismiss rumours that she took the role because of the big paycheque. She added that the best part of her new contract with GMA7 is the chance to make a new album.
On a new journey
American pop rock band Journey will soon have a new front man – Filipino vocalist Arnel Pineda of Zoo. Pineda was discovered by guitarist Neal Schon through video clips on YouTube, following which Journey decided to fly him to the US for an audition. "I thought, he can't be that good, but he is the real deal," said Schon. Journey is expected to release a new album with Pineda this year.
First kiss
Rumour has it that Angel Locsin was a bit apprehensive when she did a kissing scene with Piolo Pascual for the TV series Lobo. In fact, it took them quite a while to get comfortable with each other. Imagine how much more time they would have taken for a more intimate scene, which will surely be required at a later stage in the hit TV series.
Punch line
John Estrada nearly punched singer-comedian Pooh, who recently won P2 million (Dh 176,313) in a TV show and celebrated by throwing a party for friends. During the party, Pooh threw wads of cash at the guests. There was total commotion when everybody scrambled for the money and Estrada was hurt in the fracas. Angered, he aimed a punch at Pooh, but soon cooled down and prevented things from escalating.
