Dubai: Rip off your designer Band-Aid, because Louis Vuitton wants $160 for a lipstick — and that’s just for the case and one refill. Need another? That’ll be $69 for re-fills.

Balms come with the same sticker shock, while eyeshadow palettes are strutting in at $250, with $92 refills. Nearly double Hermès, and the beauty crowd is rolling their eyes so hard you’d think LV just launched an eye-roller too.

Now, the pretty part: launching today, La Beauté Louis Vuitton is the maison’s first-ever cosmetics line, a dreamy trio of lipsticks (55 shades), tinted balms, and eyeshadow palettes. The French house tapped none other than legendary makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath as creative director. She’s been LV’s backstage secret weapon for over two decades, and now she’s bringing her magic front and center.

“Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftsmanship, creativity and innovation,” McGrath said in a press release.

She added: “The beauty universe is about so much more than just product, and what we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty.”

Packaging comes courtesy of German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, who dreamed up a refillable floral-lock system that pushes sustainability into high-glam territory.

And as with everything Vuitton, heritage whispers throughout: from shades like 896 Monogram Rouge — “the ultimate fusion of the historic brown Monogram canvas and classic red lipstick” — to archives of vintage vanities, mirrors, and tortoiseshell brushes that inspired McGrath’s designs.

The formulas? Couture-level, too. Each lipstick boasts an 85% skincare base (think hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and natural floral waxes), while balms deliver 48 hours of hydration.

Even the scents are bespoke — Louis Vuitton master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud blended mimosa, jasmine, and rose for the lipsticks, and raspberry-mint for the balms.

So yes, Vuitton’s beauty debut is as glamorous as you’d expect.

The only question is whether makeup lovers will splurge on a lipstick that costs as much as a dinner date — or just keep rolling their eyes while reaching for their trusty Hermès tube. The verdict is already trickling in.

Online, fans have already branded the $160 lipsticks and $250 palettes as a “costly indulgence,” with some quipping, “There’s absolutely no reason for a lipstick to cost $160 — not even if it was laced with gold.”

Others are rolling their eyes at the idea of luxury makeup no one can actually see once it’s on, with one commenter deadpanning, “You’re not going to walk around holding the [expletive] palette.” From Reddit threads to Diet Prada snark, the verdict is clear: Louis Vuitton’s beauty debut may be glamorous, but its price tags are sparking more outrage than allure.
