Two decades ago, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi came to an end, starring Smriti Irani as the matriarch, Tulsi Virani. The show had witnessed several generational leaps, which became a point of meme fodder as no one quite seemed to age in the show, especially the popular, well-loved Baa, who also celebrated her 100th year in the show.

The hit series, which originally aired on Star Plus from 2000 to 2008 and followed the dynamics of a powerful business family, is set to return in a new avatar on the platform. News surrounding the reboot surged on Monday after a photo of Irani in a maroon saree began circulating on social media, with many speculating it was her first look from the show. Fans were full of praise, saying "Childhood came knocking again..."

Speaking about the show to NDTV, Irani told NDTV, “I’m a politician, nothing that you throw at me will make me nervous ever.” “Just like many politicians are part-time lawyers, part-time teachers, part-time journalists. I just happen to be a part-time actor. I’ve done it simultaneously, which is what I think is difficult to grasp.

So what can we expect from the new show? The earlier series ended with Baa dying, Mihir (Ronit Roy) with Alzheimer’s, and the rest of the family showing up for a share in property, while Tulsi looks for her grandson, who was kidnapped by the show’s villain Mandira years ago. Well, for the new show, details are scant, but there is much speculation that Amar Upadhyay, the original Mihir Virani, is a part of the show too. For the unversed, here’s a little trivia: Mihir’s ‘supposed’ death once caused such a furore that fans demanded that he return to the show, and of course he did.
