Mike Dean says the rapper will undertake his first solo tour in five years
London: He’s only been a father for four days, but Kanye West is reportedly preparing to head off on tour. According to Mike Dean, the co-producer of West’s new album, the rapper intends to celebrate the release of new album Yeezus with his first solo tour in five years.
West’s plans were revealed as part of Dean’s Ask Me Anything interview on Reddit, in which Reddit users asked him questions about headphones, trap music, and Rick Rubin’s love of comfy couches. “Will there be a Yeezus tour? Will you be one of the backing performers during the tour?” asked defrio29. “Yes and yes,” Dean replied. “Hold My Liquor is going to be great to play live.”
Although Yeezus has debuted at No 1 in 31 countries, it was hardly a certainty that West would take these songs on the road. He recently complained about the expectations accompanying major pop and hip-hop releases. “At this point, I could give a [expletive] about selling a million records as long as I put out an album for the summer that y’all can rock to for all [expletive] summer,” he said.
While West has never stopped putting on shows and crisscrossed the globe for the Watch the Throne tour with Jay-Z he declined to tour seriously behind 2008’s 808s & Heartbreak or 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. In 2009, a joint tour with Lady Gaga was called off just days after being announced.
Earlier this year, Radar reported that Kanye and his partner, Kim Kardashian, had been arguing with Kim’s sister, Kourtney, about plans for an autumn tour. Kourtney claimed she was worried for the couple’s then-unborn daughter. “It’s very selfish to take the baby on tour with Kanye,” a source told the tabloid. “Babies need stability, and a schedule, which will be very hard to do when changing time zones and hotel rooms It’s also potentially dangerous to the baby’s health.”
That baby has now arrived in the world: Kardashian gave birth to North West (yes, really) on June 15.
