Photo scandal

Young actor Jake Vargas has finally confirmed he was the one in a ‘nude’ photo that went viral on the internet a few weeks ago. Vargas didn’t consider it a big deal because it was taken before he entered showbusiness, and he thought few people would think bad of the photo. Moreover, the actor said the photo just showed him shirtless with a girl. Vargas said the photo was taken during a party with friends and people should not put any more meaning into it. The photo was not scandalous by any means, according to the actor; it was the gossip and comments that people made about the photo that made it go viral.

Next in line

Things are looking up it seems for Kristoffer Martin. After receiving an acting citation for the film Oros (The Coin Bearer) from the Long Island International Film Festival in New York earlier this year, Martin now gets his biggest TV break — a lead role on the primetime series Kahit Nasaan Ka Man (Wherever You Are) where he is paired for the first time with platinum recording artist Julie Ann San Jose. The series is a musical, and Martin was said to have been the producers’ choice, and didn’t have to audition for the role. The word from his studio, GMA, is that Martin is being groomed to be the station’s next most important male star, after Dingdong Dantes, Dennis Trillo and Alden Richards.

Back in form

After a failed political run three years ago when he ran for the vice-presidency, Edu Manzano has been in and out of the limelight. He returns to showbusiness full time doing what he does best — hosting. Although he was a popular and respected dramatic actor, it was on TV where he made his mark, hosting the now defunct TV show, Not So Late Night with Edu. He admitted he was more comfortable doing his antics on TV, and was delighted when TV5 offered him a hosting job in the new show, What’s Up Doods? The show premiered last week and rated very well proving Manzano has not lost his touch just yet.

Rising star

Child star Barbara Miguel won the Best Actress award in the recently concluded Harlem International Film Festival Award in New York. She was cited for her moving portrayal of a nine-year old girl who got pregnant in the film Nuwebe (Nine). The child prodigy showed signs of brilliance when she appeared in the hit drama series Munting Heredera on GMA. Next stop for the movie is a screening at the Vancouver International Film Festival.
