IU and Byeon Woo-seok’s new romantic K-Drama, Wife of a 21st Century Prince: Plot, cast, and release details

IU and Byeon Woo-seok have put an end to rumors about their alleged departure from the highly anticipated MBC drama Wife of a 21st Century Prince (working title).

On March 28, a media outlet reported that the two stars had informed the production team of their decision to step away from the project due to unresolved distribution negotiations. However, their agencies quickly stepped in to set the record straight.

VARO Entertainment, representing Byeon Woo Seok, firmly stated, “Byeon Woo Seok has not stepped down from ‘Wife of a 21st Century Prince.’ He will star in the drama as planned.” Meanwhile, IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, dismissed the speculation, adding, “The rumors about IU stepping down are not true. She is actively preparing for the project.”

Set in an alternate Korea where a constitutional monarchy still exists, Wife of a 21st Century Prince follows the romance between Sung Hee Joo, a chaebol heiress who seemingly has it all but lacks noble status, and Lee Ahn, a prince who, despite his royal bloodline, is left with nothing.

With both lead actors firmly on board, MBC is moving forward with preparations to air the drama later this year.

Recently, IU captivated audiences in the Netflix drama When Life Gives You Tangerines, starring alongside Park Bo-gum. The series earned widespread praise for its nuanced portrayal of love, loss, and resilience.
