The Tamil actor-turned-politician is expected to contest in the 2026 elections
Tamil actor and aspiring politician Vijay, known by his fans as Thalapathy Vijay, hosted an Iftar gathering in Chennai on Friday this Ramadan, according to reports emerging from Tamil Nadu press.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder was seen wearing a skullcap and sitting among attendees, participating in prayers before breaking fast.
A video that has now gained traction shows Vijay dressed in white, attentively listening as a clergy led prayers. Another widely circulated video captured him expressing gratitude to attendees for their sense of brotherhood and participation.
The event, held at Royapettah YMCA grounds, saw fans clicking pictures with the actor, who also greeted supporters outside the venue.
Vijay, who was last seen in Venkat Prabhu’s The GOAT, is set to star in H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan, which he has confirmed will be his final film. Addressing his supporters at a TVK rally, he reaffirmed his decision to fully transition into politics, prioritising public welfare over his cinematic career.
The first look of Jana Nayagan, released in January, depicted Vijay wielding a whip, drawing comparisons to the late actor-politician MG Ramachandran. The actor-turned-politician is expected to contest in the 2026 elections.
