The first time Kimmel missed his show was in 2007 for an emergency surgery

Dubai: Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel made headlines as he missed his show, for the second time in 22 years.
Kimmel, who hosts the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, missed his show the first time when he had to undergo an emergency surgery in 2007. Besides that, the host has never missed his show in the 22-years it has been running. Even during Covid-19, the show ran online.
This time however, Kimmel revealed he had a pretty good reason to miss his show – he is officially a grandparent.
Kimmel, in his monologue on his May 20 episode said, “We were supposed to have a show last night, but we didn’t because my daughter had a baby.”
“So I decided to be there instead of here,” he added.
But in true Kimmel fashion, the comedian joked around the topic when he revealed the name of his granddaughter.
“The baby’s very healthy. They gave her a very cute name. Her name is Melania. It’s Melania Thee Stallion,” he joked.
He then revealed that his granddaughter was actually named Patti Joan, and that she shares her middle name, Joan, with Kimmel’s mother.
“We had an army of people at the hospital – it was bigger than Coachella,” he went on to joke during his monologue. But there was one family member who was not at the hospital with his family during this time and Kimmel said it was his aunt, Chippy, who is said to have a strong opinion on the names given to the children in the family.
And of course, Kimmel had to have his fun first.
In a clip played during the monologue, Kimmel can be seen talking to his aunt over call about the name given to his granddaughter.
“We got a baby,” he said to which Chippy happily asked, “What are you naming her?”
“Well I didn’t get a vote in, and I didn’t name her, but you’re gonna like the name because Katie (Kimmel’s daughter), decided to honour my mother. It’s kind of a combination of my mother’s first name and mama – it’s Jo Mama.”
Chippy however, did figure out he was joking and called him out as everyone laughed. “She didn’t name the baby that. If you don’t stop I swear to god when I die, I’m gonna come back and haunt ya!”
Kimmel then went on to continue the joke saying, “The baby’s name is not Jo Mama, its Brangelina.”
Kimmel shares Katie and his son Kevin with his ex-wife, Gina Maddy, and his children Jane and Billy with his wife, Molly McNearney.
