In pictures: If you plan to watch Denzel Washington's 'The Equalizer 3', here's what you need to know

'The Equalizer' 3 is a vigilante action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also directed the first two movies of the franchise. Popularly known as 'The Equalizer' trilogy, the movies are loosely based on the television series of the same name. The film stars Denzel Washington in the lead, as Robert McCall, a retired US marine.

Hollywood director Antoine Fuqua is known for his action and thriller movies. The 2001 crime thriller 'Training Day', also starring Denzel Washington, was his biggest breakthrough and is considered a classic to this day. Other of Fuqua's hits include 'King Arthur' (2004), 'Brooklyn's Finest' (2009), Olympus Has Fallen (2013), Southpaw (2015) and 'The Magnificent Seven' (2016).

Washington's character Robert McCall is a former gunnery sergeant in the US Marine Corps and Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) intelligence officer. He fakes his death to start a new life, when violence seems to happen around him and he has to get to it to stop them.

In 'The Equalizer', McCall leads a quiet life as a supervisor at a hardware store. He helps a colleague train to become a security guard. An acquiantance and a friend of his who's planning to study, gets trafficked and beaten up by mobsters, after which McCall turns a detective and tracks down those responsible and unleashes hell on them.

'The Equalizer' movie released in 2014 and was a hit at the box office. Reportedly, the movie's opening was among the highest in Washington's career.

'The Equalizer 2', the sequel, too, boasted a galaxy of stars. Starring Washington in the lead, it had Pedro Pascal, Ashton Sanders, Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman and Orson Bean. The movie follows a similar trajectory of McCall getting revenge for the death of one of his friends. The second installment was also a box office hit.

The trailer for 'The Equalizer 3' shows us what to expect: an action-packed thriller. Denzel Washington is back to what he does best — tracking down the bad guys, beating them up or eliminating them. Actors Dakota Fanning, David Denman, Sonia Ammar and Remo Girone play supporting roles.

Early reviews for 'The Equalizer 3' have been mostly positive and have said the movie is action-packed and contains a lot of violence. But that should come as no surprise.
