‘Grand Budapest Hotel’, ‘Interstellar’ earn Art Directors Guild nods

The Grand Budapest Hotel, Interstellar and Birdman are among the feature film nominees for the 19th Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Awards.

The theatrical film nominations announced on Monday are divided between period, fantasy and contemporary categories.

Nominated in the period film category are David Crank for Inherent Vice; Adam Stockhausen for The Grand Budapest Hotel; Maria Djurkovic for The Imitation Game; John Paul Kelly for The Theory of Everything and Jon Hutman for Unbroken.

Vying in the fantasy film category are Peter Wenham for Captain America: The Winter Soldier; James Chinlund for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes; Charles Wood for Guardians of the Galaxy; Nathan Crowley for Interstellar; and Dennis Gassner for Into the Woods.

Nominees in the contemporary film category are James J. Murakami and Charisse Cardenas for American Sniper; Kevin Thompson for Birdman; Jess Gonchor for Foxcatcher; Donald Graham Burt for Gone Girl; and Kevin Kavanaugh for Nightcrawler.

Among the TV series receiving Art Directors Guild Award nominations in various categories are: Game of Thrones; Mad Men; Gotham; House of Cards; True Detective; Modern Family; The Big Bang Theory; and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The awards will be handed out on January 31 at the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
