“I’m not going to ever get over you,” croons Miranda Lambert in one of her songs. Yet apparently she is, as she ends her four-year marriage with Blake Shelton. Here’s the love timeline of Nashville’s golden couple.

How they met

It was love at first sight when the duo sang You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma together at the CMT 100 Greatest Duets concert in June 2005. However, at that time, Shelton was still married to his first wife, Kaynette Williams.

Later recalling this moment with VH1, Shelton described, “I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.’ Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.”

Shelton separated from Williams in 2006, after three years of marriage and started dating Lambert a year later.

Lovers in Paradise

While most celebrities wish to keep their relationship under wraps, dodging paparazzi cameras, Lambert and Shelton announced their love from the rooftops.

They started doing tours together and Lambert moved to Oklahoma to be closer to Shelton by the end of 2008. Mixing business with pleasure, Shelton gave away his songs to Lambert to call as her own, such as The House that Built Me, which critics say defined her career.

Time for a Ring

In 2011, Shelton popped the million dollar question, after asking Lambert’s father’s permission to take his daughter’s hand in marriage.

However, by this time both had become superstars and were increasingly spending time away from each other. Lambert would be away on tours and Shelton got a stint on The Voice in 2011. Yet, both remained very vocal about their love. From Twitter to Instagram, both would share posts about each other, praising their achievements while declaring their love. They would seem enamoured with each other whenever together.

But rumours are perhaps a celebrity’s worst, nagging enemy. Two years later, their marriage would be clouded with claims of Shelton cheating and a baby being on the way. Both took to Twitter repeatedly to put the rumours to rest.

Separate Ways

Four years down the road both have now decided to part ways, blaming it on hectic schedules and the increasing amount of time both spent away from each other.

Releasing a statement to Associated Press the couple said, “This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real family, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”

Two days before the announcement, Lambert was seen breaking down during her concert at Cheyenne Frontier Days Festival while singing The House that Built Me.

Both had a prenup drawn out, so the divorce was not messy. When going their own ways, Shelton will get their ranch in Oklahoma while Lambert will move back and own their family home in Nashville.
