Dubai: Director Gautham Vasudeva Menon’s Dominic And The Ladies’ Purse, led Malayalam cinema's beloved actor Mammootty, has registered 32,506 total admissions within its first four days since its release on January 24 in the UAE.

While not a record-breaking opening, this detective drama with a comedic edge is steadily finding its audience, buoyed by Mammootty’s magnetic performance and an offbeat narrative. Hollywood film Flight Risk followed closely with 20,305 admissions in its opening weekend.

The film, which casts Mammootty as a transactional and delightfully eccentric detective, steers clear of the superstar swagger and slow-motion hero shots that often accompany his roles. Instead, Menon delivers a character-driven tale where the protagonist, a disgraced former cop turned sleuth, takes on a trivial missing purse case—only to be pulled into a deeper mystery.

Mammootty shines as Dominic, a self-aggrandizing but oddly charming investigator, complemented by a well-rounded supporting cast, including Gokul Suresh, Viji Venkatesh, Siddique, and Vineeth.

The film thrives on its humorous character dynamics, particularly Dominic’s interactions with his feisty landlady, played smoothly by Viji Venkatesh.

While the film’s uneven pacing and overlong subplots are drawbacks, its blend of wit, character-driven storytelling, and a satisfying payoff make it worth a watch. Menon’s decision to focus on Dominic’s quirks rather than flashy detective gimmicks lends the film a refreshing charm.

With strong word-of-mouth, Dominic And The Ladies’ Purse could find a loyal fan base.
