Dh100,000 is up for grabs in the latest contest as part of Arab Film Studio programme run by Abu Dhabi-based production house Image Nation.

Applications are now often for AFS Script Writing, launched this month in partnership with the Dubai Film Market (DFM), the industry arm of the Dubai International Film Festival, open to Emiratis and residents of the UAE.

“Following the success of our Arab Film Studio programmes, we are excited to launch AFS Script Writing in partnership with DFM. DFM have long supported Arab filmmakers and alongside Image Nation are committed to finding and developing local talent,” said Alicia Gonzalez, head of training and development at Image Nation. Image Nation’s short film competition series also hosts Arab Film Studio narrative and Arab Film Studio Docs.

The programme will be a five-month long learning programme that will include a three-week intensive workshop focusing on all aspects of scriptwriting, followed by a three-month assignment, where participants will be asked to conceive a short film screenplay.

The winner of this year’s programme will secure funding of Dh100,000. And it can take you places: Emirati Amna Al Nowais, winner of AFS Docs, won prizes for her short film, Omnia.

Enter by April 16; the programme starts on July 17. Applicants must write up to a 30-page script of their story (font size 12, single space) and provide a long line and synopsis of the story. Also provide a script previously written that has been produced along with a link to the final film and/or any published work (short stories or books), a one-page biography and a one-page motivation letter.

Work can be submitted in Arabic or English and should be emailed to arabfilmstudio.com.
