A familiar face on TV, Pallavi Purohit made her Malayalam debut with the Mammootty starrer, Silence. Mr. Fraud is her second Malayalam film, again with a superstar.

“I feel blessed to have got the opportunity to work with the two leading actors of Malayalam industry,” says Purohit over the phone from Mumbai.

She plays Damini Varma, a member of the royal household that Mr. Fraud — played by Mohanlal — visits as part of his heist.

“After playing a mother in Silence, I was surprised when Unnikrishnan offered me this character. Damini is a sensuous woman and I was apprehensive about how I could pull it off.”

Purohit’s doubts have been put to rest, now that compliments are on the way after the film’s release. “People are not able to forget the scene where Damini meets Mr. Fraud for the first time and her lines. It feels so magical.”

Praising Mohanlal for his effortless acting, Purohit adds: “He is a simple and down-to earth person.”

She is also happy to have worked with a director like B. Unnikrishnan who never looses his cool, no matter what the situation.

It has been a long journey for this young woman from the little-known town of Kumta in Karnataka. Her first break in television came with Ekta Kapoor’s Karam Apna Apna. She has since done over 20 TV serials.

“My characters on telly have always been positive. In Mr. Fraud, I have explored a new dimension to my acting abilities.”
