Sadhana passes away

Veteran Bollywood actress Sadhana died in Mumbai on Friday after a long battle with cancer, a family friend said. She was 74 and is survived by her foster daughter.

“Sadhana (Shivdasani) breathed her last at her home this morning,” said her friend and BJP city spokesperson Shaina N.C..

One of the top actresses in the 1960s and 1970s, she is known for several box office hits, such as Mera Saaya (with Sunil Dutt), Asli Naqli and Hum Dono (with Dev Anand), Mere Mehboob (with Rajendra Kumar), Ek Musafir Ek Hasina (with Joy Mukherjee), Waqt and Woh Kaun Thi? (with Manoj Kumar).

Sadhana was born in Karachi but her family settled in Mumbai after the partition. She was seven years old when her family moved to India and started working as a child actress in 1955 with a minor appearance in Raj Kapoor’s Shree 420. In 1958, she had a significant role in India’s first Sindhi language film Abaana.

Filmmaker Karan Johar has paid homage to the veteran actress on Twitter.

“RIP Sadhana aunty...Your legacy of beauty, poise and utmost grace...will live on forever,” he tweeted. The 43-year-old filmmaker also shared a black and white photograph of Sadhana.
