Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have officially tied the knot away from the prying eyes of the world — in a remote Italian village outside Milan.

In a joint statement posted on their official social media accounts, the couple stated: “Today we have promised each other to be bound in love for ever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans and well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey.”

Two wedding images were released with the posts.

The wedding of the celebrity power couple is a match made for the tabloids: Kohli is the captain of the Indian cricket team, while Sharma is one of the top actresses in Bollywood today.

The couple, both 29, started dating in 2013 after they met during the filming of a shampoo advert. The high-profile couple made their first public appearance a year later during a football match.

According to reports, Kohli is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, commanding the biggest payout for endorsements in India. A report in the Indian Economic Times stated Kohli’s charges Rs50 million per day for new contracts, surpassing team member MS Dhoni, along with Bollywood’s Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.

While Kohli ranked number three on the Forbes celebrity list, Sharma sat on number 33. However, the actress, who runs her own film production house Clean Slate Films, reportedly charges Rs100 million per film, while her celebrity brand endorsements feature between Rs20-40 million.

The ‘Virushka’ wedding, as it’s been called by fans, has grabbed headlines around the world — a frenzy last seen perhaps in October 2012 when Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor were wed.

Several media reports have also indicated Kohli and Sharma are expected to host a wedding reception in Mumbai next week.
