Bollywood gives thumbs up to ‘Masaan’

Bollywood celebrities including Rajkummar Rao, Kalki Koechlin and Radhika Apte among others have heaped praise for debut director Neeraj Ghaywan’s upcoming film Masaan.

The movie, which won two awards at the Cannes Film Festival — FIPRESCI, International Jury of Film Critics prize and Promising Future prize in the Un Certain Regard section — will release in India this Friday.

The celebrities have called the film “well made”, “outstanding” and “brilliant”.

“First love, innocence, heartbeats, earnestness, give and take, pain, loss, life, death, rebirth and continuous hope #Masaan,” Koechlin tweeted.

Praising the director’s effort, Rao said, “Outstanding! Top notch in every dept. Take a bow @ghaywan U’ve made a truly special film.@CastingChhabra @avinasharun20 hats off guys.#Masaan.”

“#Masaan is a well made, well shot, well acted film with a very moving story. Catch it this Friday the 24th of July at a cinema near you,” Gulshan Devaiah of Hunterrr fame tweeted.

Actress Richa Chadha’s performance in the Indo-French co-production was applauded by her colleagues in the industry.

Director Shirish Kunder tweeted, “Special mention to @RichaChadha_ for her performance in #Masaan. Great work!”

“@RichaChadha_ steals the show in #Masaan how subtle controlled and intense. Way to go! @battatawada you were a delight. Big love,” Apte said.

Besides Chadha, the Varanasi-set drama also stars Sanjay Mishra, Shweta Tripathi, Pankaj Tripathi and Vineet Kumar.
