Jennie wins court battle against false father and AI novel publisher
Blackpink’s Jennie emerged triumphant in a court ruling in a distribution ban lawsuit filed against a man who falsely claimed to be her biological father, along with a publisher.
As reported by Woman Sense and quoted by Chosun Biz, on the 18th, the Uijeongbu District Court Goyang Branch sided with Jennie in the first trial of a lawsuit filed in May against Mr. A and publisher B. The court stated, "It is reasonable to view the claim that Mr. A is Jennie's biological father as false," and ordered all copies of Mr. A’s book to be destroyed. The ruling also prohibited Mr. A from mentioning Jennie on social media, including KakaoTalk profiles.
The case stemmed from a strange incident that surfaced online in September last year. A man claimed to be Jennie's biological father and publishing an AI-generated novel based on her life. He described the fictional relationship as real, despite having no actual connection to her and not being listed as her father on her family relationship certificate.
Jennie's agency, OA Entertainment, responded strongly. They stated, "False information in illegal publications impersonating the artist's father is being disseminated. This is a clear falsehood and is entirely unrelated to Jennie," adding, "we are proceeding with a strong response including a criminal complaint for defamation and obstruction of business against the distributor."
The ruling triggered widespread reaction online, with comments such as, "This is terrifying' and "Is this excessive fan sentiment or malicious marketing... this must be punished," reflecting the public’s shock.
Others noted the broader impact of the court’s decision, saying that "the legal action has drawn a clear line, which is significant," and highlighting that the ruling sets a precedent for dealing with fake news and the exploitation of an artist’s privacy.
