Dubai: Indian actress and director Pooja Bhatt will produce the film version of the play, The Last Salute, based on the book of the same name. The film will be directed by a Middle Eastern director.

Bhatt's father, controversial director and producer Mahesh Bhatt, who has been promoting the play, told tabloid! the film will be shot entirely in Lebanon in both Arabic and English. 

The play is a dramatisation of the book written by Iraqi journalist Muntader Al Zaidi, who attained infamy by throwing a shoe at former US president George W. Bush in 2008. 

tabloid! exclusively announced in January that Bhatt was collaborating with Al Zaidi to stage a play based on his book. 

"I will present the film and will collaborate with Al Zaidi on the screenplay, which will be directed by a maverick, non-conformist director from the Middle East," said Bhatt, who did not divulge the name of the director. "We are also looking for a partner to produce the Indian version." 

Bollywood actor Dino Morea will co-produce the film along with his daughter, he added. 

The play, The Last Salute, premiered in New Delhi last week, starring upcoming Bollywood actor Imran Zahid. Al Zaidi was the guest of honour. 

Bhatt, who has promised to bring the play to Dubai, was unable to confirm the date.
