Diab parties it up

Amr Diab may have postponed his album release in Egypt “out of respect” for the current instability, but that hasn’t stopped the star from partying it up abroad.

The Egyptian star has come under fire for performing at Nammos nightclub on Mykonos in Greece, where the hosts and hostesses apparently paraded around the club naked with only gold paint to cover their modesty. Fans have reacted to the news by posting on Diab’s Facebook page that they didn’t think it was in line with the cultural values of the Middle East.

To add fuel to the fire, the Greek Reporter newspaper revealed that fans at the show were spending ridiculous amounts of money on drinks, with some bottles costing €120,000 (Dh590,000). The club is said to have made a cool €1.5 million in revenue on the night.

Saber Rebai out, Latifa in?

Rumour has it MBC is in talks with singing superstar Latifa to replace her Tunisian counterpart on hit show The Voice Middle East. According to a source at the network, producers decided to approach replacements after Rebai allegedly asked for a pay rise, despite the fact he hadn’t coached the winning contestant on the last season.

“It makes sense to approach another star from Tunisia, because MBC has a huge viewership in North Africa,” said the source. “Therefore they would need someone from that region on the panel to join [Egyptian singer] Sherine, Assi [Al Helani, from Lebanon] and Kazem [Al Saher, from Iraq].”

Rebai’s press office has denied the rumours, saying that he is scheduled to start shooting next month.
