Champions Trophy keeps date with the UAE

Cricket fans have a chance to pose with prized cup ahead of tournament’s final edition

Dubai: The Champions Trophy, for which the top eight cricketing nations are set to do battle from June 6 in England and Wales, is being displayed in Dubai given the large following for cricket in the UAE.

The trophy is being displayed at Lamcy Plaza in Bur Dubai from May3-4, from 10am to 10pm, and cricket fans will get an opportunity to be photographed with the trophy.

The opportunity is not to be missed by hardcore fans who won’t be travelling to watch the tournament unfold as this year will be the final edition of the showpiece. The Champions Trophy is scheduled to begin from June 6 with an India-South Africa match at Cardiff and conclude on June 23 with the final at Edgbaston.

Cricket bats signed by all the participating teams from the ICC Champions Trophy 2006, along with national caps of the eight teams taking part in the forthcoming event, will also be on display.

The Champions Trophy has been crafted by the British crown jeweller Asprey stands 46 centimetres high and weighs 3.1 kg.

Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies are in the fray to make the glittering trophy their own for the last time. Australia, England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka feature in Group A while India, Pakistan, South Africa and the West Indies are in Group B. The game on June 15 when arch rivals India and Pakistan will lock horns is set to be one of the highlights of the tournament.
