Dubai:  Looking to update your wardrobe or buy stuff for the apartment but don’t have the budget?

Residents in the UAE will again be treated to another three full days of heavy discounts, as Dubai's retailers are expected to drop prices by as much as 90 per cent during the citywide Super Sale this weekend.

At least 1,000 shops across various shopping malls in Dubai will be offering discounts ranging between 25 per cent and 90 per cent on a wide range of goods, from clothes, shoes, bags and fashion accessories to homeware, electronics and even groceries.

Top brands

According to organisers, shoppers will have the chance to buy merchandise from more than 300 brands and among those who will be participating are popular labels like Guess, Levi’s Victoria’s Secret, Bath and Body Works, Calvin Klein, Charles & Keith, Marks & Spencer H&M, Nine West, Aeropostale, American Eagle and Forever 21, among many others.

Discounts also await those who will drop by Carrefour and LuLu Hypermarkets, as well as department stores like Debenhams, Bloomingdales and Galeries Lafayette.

"Retailers across the city will dramatically reduce prices on a wide variety of must-have and on-trend brands, giving you infinite opportunities to shop - and save," organisers said.

“From top fashion items to the finest interiors collections and state-of-the-art electronics, shoppers can enjoy hefty discounts of up to 90 per cent off top brands, giving them the ultimate chance to bag a bargain,” said Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of DFRE.

The three-day discount bonanza will be held ahead of the annual Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), another annual retail event in which UAE residents and visitors are promised huge discounts.

It remains to be seen whether this weekend’s sale will boost consumer spending and mall traffic. According to the latest research, many residents are now actively looking for ways to spend less.

In a survey conducted by McKinsey & Company, about four in ten (42 per cent) people in the UAE said they’re cutting back on spending, while nearly half (48 per cent) are delaying their purchases.

Spike in consumer spending

During the last quarter of 2017, UAE consumer spending spiked, as shoppers took advantage of store discounts that hit as much as 90 per cent. Consumers also cashed in ahead of the implementation of value-added tax (VAT).

According to Euromonitor, retail sales in the UAE reached Dh189.6 billion in 2017, an increase of two per cent compared to the previous year.

“Sales were fueled by retailers running promotional campaigns,” Nicola Kosutic, senior research manager at Euromonitor International, told Gulf News earlier.

For those who have the budget, here’s what to expect at the upcoming weekend sale:

Discounts on groceries

Carrefour hypermarkets, LuLu Hypermarkets and LuLu Supermarkets are among the big grocery retailers who are participating in the three-day sale, so shoppers can expect to make some savings on their groceries.

Clothes, lots of clothes

For those who are on the lookout to update their wardrobe, there will be plenty of opportunities to pick new clothes at a cheaper cost, especially if they head down to H&M, Forever 21, New Look, Splash, Lipsy, Aeropostale, Coast, Topshop, American Eagle, Miss Selfridge and Giordano, among many others.

Shoes and bags

Looking for shoes or bag to match your newly bought dress? There could be some bargains to score at Nine West, Tory Burch, Coach, Naturalizer, Guess, Michael Kors, Charles & Keith and Payless.

Homeware

For homeware or anything to furnish the apartment, it may be a good idea to pop into Home Centre, ID Design, Jashanmal, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn or Tavola.
