Dubai: Autonomous driving firm WeRide has rolled out eight fully driverless ride-hailing routes operating 24/7 across central Guangzhou, marking China’s first all-day autonomous Robotaxi network in a major city.

The new network covers key urban landmarks including Canton Tower, Zhujiang New Town, Garden Hotel, and major transit hubs like Baiyun International Airport and Guangzhou South Railway Station. With this launch, WeRide moves closer to the mass commercialization of autonomous transport in dense urban environments.

The company, which went public on Nasdaq under the ticker WRD, now operates in over 30 cities globally and holds driverless permits in China, the UAE, Singapore, France, and the US. Its Robotaxi service can be booked via the WeRide Go app, with airport and rail transfers available for pre-scheduling.

More markets

WeRide began commercial Robotaxi trials in Guangzhou in 2019 and has since expanded operations to cities across China, the UAE, and Switzerland. The company reports over 2,000 days of public operation without active safety incidents.

Internationally, WeRide partnered with Uber in 2024, deploying a commercial Robotaxi fleet in Abu Dhabi and expanding into Dubai in April. The firms now plan to launch autonomous fleets in 15 more cities over five years, including in Europe.

This latest deployment in Guangzhou signals a turning point for WeRide’s commercialization push, reinforcing the city’s role as a testing ground for large-scale autonomous mobility in real-world conditions.
