Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Water and Environment signed a five-year contract to help raise the performance of Emirati employees from different companies across the UAE, in securing the future of solar power technology in the region.
At a press conference held yesterday, the ministry announced that it will be investing in its human resources working in the field of environmental engineering, solar cell technology and geothermal engineering by sending staff on a two-week training programme at a solar cell production plant in South Korea.
Ten Emirati specialists have been selected out of 40 other candidates after fulfilling required criteria's set by the ministry; some of which includes: extensive knowledge in environment and clean energy production environment, completion of a baccalaureate degree, and having over three years' work experience in environmental engineering, solar cell technology or geothermal engineering.
Rashid Bin Fahd, Minister of Water and Environment, said the UAE government is focusing on green energy sources and technology, and intends to conduct as many programmes as possible to help prepare Emirati specialists to understand and implement alternative energy solutions; for that purpose a committee from the Ministry of Water and Environment and LG Electronics was especially formed to select the candidates to complete the programme.
"We intend to send 10 of our most qualified hand-picked Emirati specialists to train at the LG Electronics headquarters in South Korea for the next five years, after signing a green protocol with them to help protect the UAE environment, conduct energy renewable researches, introduce new technology and open a research centre for solar energy in the Jebel Ali," the minister said.
The next batch of Emirati specialists will be conducting their training in two solar cell production lines in Korea which will manufacture crystalline silicon solar cells and modules.
