Dubai: It is not unusual for companies to give out a free T-shirt or even a free lunch to its best customers, but Dubai cable manufacturer Ducab decided to go one better. The firm dished out free flights, hotels and tickets to some of the Indian Premier League's biggest cricket matches.

The promotion, which more than 250 shops across the UAE participated in, certainly seems to have paid off. The company has recorded a sales increase of 65 per cent over a three- month period, selling more than 62 million metres of wire and increasing its market share to 50 per cent.

As part of the package, customers were rewarded with a three-day trip to the IPL final, which included match tickets, flights, hotel accommodation with bed and breakfast, airport pickups and transfers, and transport to and from the cricket stadium.

The 50 winners were announced at a gala dinner at the Monarch Hotel, Dubai.

"The promotion has proved to be very successful. We have sold over 1,500 tonnes of LV wires during the promotion period within the UAE," Ashish Chaturvedy, marketing manager at Ducab said.

One of the 50 winners who got the chance to travel to Chennai to watch the IPL final was Rajan Bhatia, managing partner at Key West Trading.

"It was a fantastic trip and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Promotions and competitions such as these are always welcome and we very much look forward to any such opportunities in the future," said Bhatia.
