Staff Report: The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) will cooperate to strengthen supervision and inspection of businesses related to civil aviation activities in the emirate.

As per the agreement, DED will inspect commercial establishments authorised for civil aviation activities by DCAA as well as businesses operating in violation of Law No 7 of 2015 on the security and safety of Dubai’s air space and the Executive Council decision No 4 of 2017 regarding fees and fines that fall under the jurisdiction of DCAA. DED will coordinate with DCAA on imposing fines while the Authority will provide DED with the required data and train DED inspectors to assume control of the inspection procedures.

“DED and the DCAA working in partnership will enhance economic and business activity in Dubai and the UAE, and add value to the services provided to the business community,” said Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of DED. The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector in DED promotes consumer rights protection and adherence to fair trade practices in Dubai by providing necessary information and advice to consumers and retailers.

The focal points of the DCAA strategy include enabling the civil aviation sector to meet challenges, creating opportunities for innovation, promoting business-friendliness, and evolving a balanced regulatory framework.

“Through this partnership, we seek to improve commercial compliance and provide a well-integrated and ideal economic environment in Dubai. DED will submit periodic reports to DCAA on the inspection campaigns” added Al Qamzi. The move seeks to develop a culture of compliance and raise awareness among businesses on the role of the DCAA and the DED in enforcing laws and provisions, and in strengthening relations between traders and consumers.
