Dubai: Emirates has issued a reminder to passengers regarding regulations for carrying personal electronic devices (PEDs).

As per the airline’s guidelines, passengers may carry or check in up to 15 PEDs, which must be packed separately and not attached to other devices. Poorly packaged items or those exceeding the limit may be confiscated.

Additionally, personal motorised devices, including smart bags, hoverboards, and mini Segways, are prohibited due to their large lithium batteries. These items cannot be checked in or carried as hand luggage, even if other airlines permit them.

Passengers are advised to review customs regulations for restricted items like electronics, alcohol, cigarettes, and medication, as rules vary by country, according to the airline's website.

Prohibited items and UAE regulations

  • Forbidden Items: Certain substances and objects that pose safety risks are not allowed on board. Passengers should review local government restrictions and Emirates’ list of prohibited items.

  • Declaring Items: Travellers can use the iDeclare app by Dubai Customs to check permitted goods and declare items in advance for a smoother customs process.

  • Medication Rules: Controlled medications require prior approval from the UAE Ministry of Health. Uncontrolled and over-the-counter medications do not need prior approval but must be carried with a prescription (up to a 3-month supply).

  • Drug Policy: The UAE has a zero-tolerance policy on drugs. Even small quantities of illegal substances can lead to severe penalties.
