Outbound flights are being affected by a technical issue with air traffic control
A technical issue at the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) Swanwick control centre brought widespread disruption to UK air travel today, grounding outbound flights and causing delays at major airports across the country.
The glitch, detected at the Swanwick facility near Southampton, temporarily crippled the ability to process flight plans for departing aircraft. As a result, outbound flights from key airports including Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Birmingham were delayed.
NATS stated that engineers were “working hard to resolve the problem,” and later confirmed that the technical issue had been resolved. However, knock-on delays are expected to continue.
“We continue to work closely with airline and airport customers to minimise disruption,” NATS said in its latest update.
Passengers are being urged to check with their airlines before heading to the airport, as flight schedules remain unstable.
