Dubai: Air services provider dnata announced on Monday that it is expanding its operations at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport with the start of new partnership with Air Transat.

The partnership is between GTA dnata, the company’s joint venture business in Canada, and Air Transat, a holiday airline operating from Toronto.

Starting from November, GTA dnata is providing ground and passenger services to the airline, more than doubling the number of flights it handles in Toronto.

To enable this growth, GTA dnata has hired over 200 additional employees to its team, which now comprises 450 people.

“This long-term contract is a vote of confidence in our quality services and we look forward to supporting the extensive operations of Canada’s largest leisure carrier,” said Mario D’Urso, chairman of GTA dnata.

Dnata, a subsidiary of the Emirates group, entered the Canadian market by establishing GTA dnata through the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in GTA Aviation’s cargo and ground handling operations in 2016. The company now serves 12 airlines in Toronto.

In January 2019, dnata will also be establishing a flight catering facility in Vancouver, at an investment of more than 7 million Canadian dollars (Dh19.6 million).
