Dubai: In the wake of the devastating Air India Flight AI171 incident near Ahmedabad, Tata Group, the parent company of Air India, has issued a heartfelt statement expressing deep sorrow and pledging significant support to those affected.
The incident, which involved a London-bound flight crashing shortly after take-off, has resulted in a tragic loss of life and numerous injuries.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, conveyed the group’s profound anguish: "We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones and with those who have been injured.”
In a move to provide immediate relief and long-term support, Tata Group announced substantial assistance measures. Chandrasekaran confirmed, “Tata Group will provide ₹1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy.” (₹1 crore is approximately 10 million Indian Rupees or around $120,000, or Dh429,297).
Beyond financial compensation for fatalities, the group has also committed to covering the medical expenses of all injured individuals, ensuring they receive “all necessary care and support.” Furthermore, Tata Group will aid in the rebuilding of the B. J. Medical College hostel, which was reportedly impacted during the crash.
“We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time,” Chandrasekaran said.
