Is bigger always better? In the case of televisions, there are enormous benefits in a larger screen. If you have the space, paying a bit more for those extra inches is worth it – super-sized TVs offer higher resolutions, a cinematic atmosphere, clearer details and a richer viewing experience. But what sets one TV apart from the next? We asked experts to help you pick the best 75-inch screen.

With these inches, you could shell out over Dh10,000 for a high-performing model, but second-tier brands offer great deals, too. According to Avais Aslam, owner of Abu Dhabi-based Avais Electronics with 16 years of TV servicing experience, a large screen investment is worth it when the family is made up of sports and gaming enthusiasts, who prefer an all-immersive view. "Especially with the FIFA World Cup 2022 coming up, people are looking for huge displays to catch the live matches on," said Aslam.

The casual TV consumer will come across terminologies like OLED and QLED displays in their search. Essentially, an OLED panel (organic light-emitting diode) has pixels that emit light on their own, without the help of a backlight. As a result, you're getting deeper blacks and excellent contrast when gaming.

Conversely, the QLED (quantum-dot light-emitting diode) panel uses a filter made of tiny dots against a backlight to produce accurate colours, no matter the brightness level. Both technologies deliver stunning picture quality, so there's little to no difference to the typical viewer, says Aslam. "OLED and QLED TVs can be expensive; a decent alternative that's far more accessible is a UHD (ultra-high definition) LED TV," he added.

Based on repair frequencies, display technology and operating software, we curated a list of the best 75-inch TVs you can buy in 2022. Just to give you a preview, Aslam says you should be primarily looking into Samsung, LG and Sony, followed by Hisense or TCL. Browse the pros and cons below, peppered with more expert comments.

Baig also highlights the audio system on the 2022 model, which carries a built-in woofer. With audio pouring out from the top, sides and centre, you're getting a fuller Dolby Atmos sound sphere. Its colour and brightness are unparalleled, enhanced by an anti-reflective screen. Browse an impressive library of smart TV functions via the Tizen operating system, which Aslam says "is the speediest when it comes to internet connection and running apps quickly". Add to all that the TV’s less-than-an-inch thickness and super-sleek design, and it’s a winner.

If you're looking for a large OLED TV by LG, then you'll find either the 65- or 77-inch screen in its cinematic range. For our purposes, we've picked the latter size. Smart televisions manufactured by LG are vastly popular, and Shuaib Mohammed - manager at Abu Dhabi-based Luminous IT Solutions service centre - shares that these TVs get the least number of complaints. Put your trust in all 77 inches of LG's 4K cinema screen, and experience true blacks, a billion colours, Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio. Gamers are in for a treat, when they learn that this TV is certified by both NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium to produce stutter-free, fluid gameplay. Mohammed also comments on LG's user-friendly webOS platform, bringing you nine picture modes, smart sports alerts and voice search. Five-star reviews attest to the undeniable quality offered in all aspects, from paper-thin dimensions to the theatre experience.

Pros

  • Fantastic colour reproduction
  • Pairs brilliantly with the PlayStation 5 console
  • Android TV operating software
  • Supports Dolby Vision and Audio
  • Family-friendly option

Cons

  • Offers only 16GB of storage

With its price in the happy middle of low-end and high-end 75-inch televisions, and some stellar features to boot, Sony Bravia’s X90K is a great option. The TV checks all the boxes – it has vibrant colours, decent blacks even with a backlight, and a host of smart features. It also features Sony’s new Cognitive Processor XR, which the brand claims brings “cognitive intelligence” to its TVs for the first time, allowing images to be processed in a way that matches how our brain perceives things. And if you’re a gamer, the Bravia XR TV is optimised for your PlayStation 5 console - from the high contrast to HDMI 2.1 support for 4K at 120Hz gameplay. This 2022 model runs on the familiar Android TV operating system, on which Google smart TV allows parents to create a special Kids Profile, too. It’s an all-rounder, and definitely worth considering!

Even at a budget price, the television includes several smart features – for instance, when Sports Mode is turned on, the TV analyses movement and creates smoother motion. Its Game Mode drops input lag to as little as 16-miliseconds, and its VIDAA smart centre gives you access to a host of apps and features. Did we mention the price is excellent?

Considered to be LG’s best ever liquid-crystal display (LCD) television by far, the Nano90 series brings out the beauty of the brand’s Nanocell colour technology in ways you are bound to appreciate. While people usually look at televisions with OLED panels at this price, LG’s flagship 4K LCD provides a great alternative. Its wide viewing angles, reliable webOS smart platform and excellent colour contrasts make it a serious contender. While the TV does have its issues, like mild backlight flickering, its other features more than make up for it.

  • Sharp, clear images
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Dolby Vision included
  • Great price

Cons

  • Not suitable for 4K gaming at 120Hz
  • Interface lags at times

For under Dh5,000, this 75-inch television from Xiaomi brings you the best next-gen QLED technology with 4K UHD image clarity. Its television screen is gigantic, thanks to ultra-thin bezels on three sides, which allows images to fill up the flatscreen. The TV checks all the boxes, in terms of picture quality, with its HDR10+ support, Dolby Vision, and 4K panel. Reviewers say it’s one of the best Android TVs in the market right now, and you can see why – the device allows you to stream from your phone, and there’s built-in Chromecast, too. It’s not the best TV for gaming – you’ll have to turn down resolution to 1080p to unlock 120Hz – but if you’re looking to set up an entertainment centre, Xiaomi’s TV will give you more bang for your buck.
