Dubai: Legendary Indian allrounder Kapil Dev wants the media to be patient with Hardik Pandya, a member of Virat Kohli’s squad in England, who has suffered in comparison with the great in recent times - often unfairly.

“I think it’s the media who are talking so much about that comparison. He has the talent but just give him time to grow as a player. He is too young, so let us not change his thought process. Let him play and if he is good, he will prove himself. Why put pressure on youngsters,” Kapil told Gulf News on the sidelines of a promotional event here.

Kapil attended a function held to celebrate 15 years of partnership between Channel 2 and Channel 4 Radio in cricketing entertainment partnership - which will bring upcoming Unimoni Asia Cup to the fans,

The former Indian captain, whose Class of 1983 shocked the cricketing world by beating mighty West Indies to lift the World Cup, had been a part of several Asia Cup campaigns himself. Asked to recollect some of those memories, including that of the inaugural edition of the event in 1984 in Sharjah, the great said: “Things were totally different in Sharjah during that period. Cricket is much more global with television coming in such big way. It would be intereting to see how the teams perform here.”

The 14th edition of the Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and Sharjah from September 15 to 28.
